SHAVED ICE - SNOW CONE MACHINES AND ICE SHAVERS

Jarco offers the world's largest selection of ice shavers and snow cone machines. We have the Hawaii's Finest and Olde New Orleans ice shavers as well as the Gold Medal "Sno-Kone" snow cone machines. Both of these products are very easy to make and very profitable - 80% or higher profit margins.

To make consistent snow cone or shaved ice profits you must start with the right raw product, which is the ice itself. All Gold Medal snow cone and Hawaii's Finest cube ice shavers need good quality clear cube or chunk ice. For best results, all ice, cube or chunk needs to temper out - warm up enough to soften slightly prior to use. The best results come when the ice is allowed to warm to about 25 degrees (-4 centigrade).

SNOW CONES OR SHAVED ICE - HOW TO CHOOSE

A snow cone is produced by a machine that grinds the ice to create a chunky coarse snow product. Topped with an ounce of special snow cone syrup that goes to the bottom creating the world's coldest most refreshing drink. Snow cone machines are not as costly as the ice shavers. Most snow cone machines have a display case. The machine shown on the right is a typical snow cone machine. To operate, simply lift the pusher handle, fill with chunks of ice, turn on the motor and pull the handle. You can vary the fineness of the finished snow by using colder ice, putting less pressure, or setting the blades to shave more finely.

An ice shaver machine shaves the ice so fine and light (snow like) that the syrup sticks to the snow and you eat it with a spoon. Because the ice is very fine it will melt a lot faster than the snow cones. A high output snow cone machine can shave up to 500 pounds of ice per hour. Shave ice machines do not have a display area.

Our most popular snow cone machine is the Sno-Konette which was the world's first complete ice shaver with a display case. A lot changes have been made since it's inception back in 1947 - there have been dozens of improvements! The Sno-Konette and Shav-A-Doo family of snow cone machines have a model that's right for you.

If you decide to use an ice shaver you will need to decide if you want to use cubed ice (like the ice you use in a softdrink, for example) or block ice.

Why block ice? There are many misconceptions about block ice and one is that a block ice shaver makes a much finer ice than a cubed ice shaver. If your ice blocks are 100% perfect, it is possible for a skilled operator to produce a slightly finer ice but it is virtually impossible to see or taste a difference and it is not possible have enough frozen blocks of ice for a busy location unless you have a large walk in freezer. If you run out of blocks - you are out of business. That is why we recommend the Hawaii's Finest Shaved Ice machines which are very popular and easy to operate. You can always go to the corner gas station or convenience store and buy bulk bags of ice.

SNOW CONE MACHINES

SHAVE-A-DOO SNOW CONE MACHINES

The Shav-A-Doos are one our most economical snow cone machines. These are entry level snow cone makers for customers with lower volume ice shaving needs. Uses Plexiglas windows rather than the tempered glass that is featured on the larger machines. The welded frame reduces leaks from melted ice but we highly recommend the optional drip pan to safely catch condensation.

SHAVE-A-DOO II SNOW CONE MACHINE

The Shav-A-Doo II, Snow Cone machine, features a detachable ice shaving unit that may be used with the display case, a cooler or any other ice catching bin. The Shav-A-Doo II is ideal for Rental Stores and those who have multiple selling areas, but don't want to incur the cost of multiple machines.

The #1903 Shav-A-Doo II is comprised of two separate pieces; the aluminum, 1/3 HP ice shaving unit and the Plexiglas display case. Like the #1803 Shav-A-Doo, the Shav-A-Doo II has the same dimensions and shaving capacity.

WHAT DOES UL LISTED MEAN?

It means that a not-for-profit, independent laboratory has tested samples of products to safety requirements and conducts periodic checks of manufacturers' facilities. Manufacturers submit products to UL for testing and safety certification on a voluntary basis. Required in some areas - check your local codes.

The following Gold Medal snow cone and shaved ice machines are UL Listed: Models 1002, 1003, 1005, 1007, 1027, 1333, 1203, 1888. Visit the UL Website for more information.

SNO-KONETTE SNOW CONE MACHINES

SHAVE ICE SHAVERS

Hawaiian Shaved Ice Shavers (Hawaii's Finest Brand) and the Olde New Orleans Block Ice Shavers will both produce the very highest quality shaved ice. We recommend cubbed ice shavers but we offer block ice shavers as well for those who prefer working with blocks. Shown on right with optional MaximIcer. The MaximIcer helps create continuous shave ice production by holding up to 20 pounds of additional ice.

The Hawaii's Finest Heavy Duty model is our most popular ice shaver and can produce over 300 pounds of shaved ice in one hour. This high ouput model features a very powerful and oversized 3/4 HP motor that cuts through ice with ease. For even more production capability look at the Super Ice Shaver. The standard model uses an oversized gear driven 1/3 HP motor.

The addition of the optional foot switch (which works with all of the listed ice shavers) is a highly recommended accessory.

BLOCK ICE SHAVERS

In 1934, inventor Ernest Hansen patented the first known "Ice block shaver" in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was inspired to create a more refined and hygenic version of the popular "Italian Ice" sold from push-carts in the city. His wife Mary created many flavors of fresh syrups to flavor his finely shaved artificial "snow". "Snow balls" have been popular in New Orleans ever since. Eventually, "Snow balls" became known as "sno-cones", and their popularity grew worldwide.

The Olde New Orleans ice shaver feature a 3/4 HP motor and is available in electric and battery (DC) versions. This is one of the most powerful block ice shavers in the world. The extra large three blade shaver head planes snow off the ice block and delivers it from the chute at the right hand lower corner of the body.

To operate simply place a 6-12 pound block of ice into the front storage compartment. The cast aluminum front door has a built in safety switch to protect the operator. Constructed of stainless steel - these block ice shavers use special sized 7-1/2 pound block ice molds.

TIP - For best results allow ice to temper out and warm up enough to soften slightly prior to use. Excessively cold ice will stick to itself and the hopper, will dull the blades and most importantly will not shave properly.
